One of the main benefits of booking an apartment rather than a hotel has to be the kitchen.

Not only because you can save money on meals, but it is also healthier and sometimes more convenient. especially if you are on a business trip and you just want to relax at home.

We want to help you make best use of the kitchen in the apartment, so we provide the basic stuff in all the lofts: olive oil, vinegar, sugar, salt & pepper (all organic), as well as free tea and coffee. There is everything you need to clear up too, with ecologically sourced cleaning products.

In addition to this, we also offer a "Welcome Food Package" (optional), so when you arrive, there will already be some groceries waiting for you in the apartment.

The "Welcome Food Package" includes: One loaf of German bread, one liter of milk, cheese, six eggs, 500 grams natural yogurt and a bowl of fruit. All products are organic, and where possible, regionally sourced.

You will find all these products in your apartment for an extra cost of 25 euro, just let us know in advance.

Buying groceries: Some German products you can get in the supermarket

If you prefer to eat organic, the closest shop is Alnatura, where we actually get the "Welcome Food Package".

The closest normal Supermarket from Rewe, where you can get all kind of groceries and it is open from 7 am to 11 pm.

If you are interested in German food but you prefer to eat at "home", we have made a list of traditional products you can get in any supermarket:

- Harzer Käse (Harzer cheese): You will either love this, or hate it! In any case, it is worth a try and it is low fat!

- Canned herring fillet: Typical fish in north Europe that you can buy in a can, plain or with tomato sauce, rich in omega-3 fatty acids and healthy.

- Bavarian sweet mustard (Bayerischer Süßer Senf): Breakfast with sausages or sweet breakfast? In the Bavarian tradition you can have both at the same time! Try a white sausage with this mustard, it is delicious. Not so popular like the one from Dijon, but you maybe want to buy extra to take home.

- German sausages: It is not possible to talk about German food and do not mention sausages. Bratwurst, Weisswurst or Frankfurter are the most popular ones.

- Meerrettich (Horseradish): A very common product in Germany consumed in different ways: natural for cooking, sauce or combined with cooked ham

- Rotkhol (Red cabbage):Typical extra in dishes with meat or in salads.

- Kartoffelsalat (Potato salad):As traditional as the sausages, you can prepare it yourself or buy it ready-made.

- Spreewaldgurken (Spreewald gherkins): Traditional DDR speciality from Spreewald, around 100 kms from Berlin.

- Asparagus from Beelitz:The asparagus from Beelitz, around 60 kms from Berlin, are the most popular ones. Get them during the very traditional ‘Spargelzeit’ between the end of April and June.

- Berliner Weiße: The options are so many that we could never finish. In any case, if you want to try something really Berliner, try the Berliner Weiße because it is brewed only in Berlin and it is something really different to the other beers. Try a red and a green one and buy any other Pilsner or Wheat beer just in case you do not like it.

- Spätzle: The German pasta, normally cooked with cheese or lentils.

Some easy recipes to cook in your Miniloft:

Every Miniloft is provided with a fridge, stove, toaster, kettle, microwave, Italian and French coffee machine and several frying pans and saucepans.

It is easy to cook for one or two in the lofts: different kind of salads, omelettes, pastas, soups... If you need inspiration to cook only for one or two, we recommend you to check the Kochhaus.de (if you can understand German).

If you want some specific German recipes, here we have selected a list of easy recipes for one or two. Click on the name of each recipe to get the directions to cook it.

- Farmer's Omelet (Bauern-Omelette):The German version of the Spanish Tortilla. All you need is eggs, potatoes, onions, bacon, butter, salt and pepper.

- Spätzel with lentils:For this recipe you will obviously need the egg noodles (spätzel), lentils and also carrots, a large onion, leek and some fresh parsley.

- Cheese Spaetzle Recipe (Käsespätzle): Another traditional dish with spätzel, but this time with butter, onions, eggs, all-purpose flour and Gruyère. We recommend serve it with applesauce and crispy fried onion.

- German potato soup (Kartoffelsuppe): Very common in the area of Brandenburg, where the potato is one of the main products: onion, celery, carrots, leek and of course, potatoes.

-Eggs with mustard sauce: Easy and quick, all you need is some eggs, mustard, butter, vegetable broth and some lemon juice.

- Mutti's German Herring Salad: A salad with one of the most consumed fish in Germany. You will need 1 jar (about 500 ml) herring, sour cream and fresh dill (optional).

- White Asparagus Soup: If it is the asparagus' season, here you find an easy and delicious recipe. Get the white asparagus (better from Beelitz) and you only need onion, butter, broth and cream.
