From the husky tones of Marlene to the yelps of David Bowie, Berlin is a city of sounds. And those sounds over the years have been just as important in defining the city as it’s art or literature. Experiencing the city through it’s songs is the idea behind Songs of Berlin – a group of tour guides who aim to use music to connect with your surroundings.
What started in 2013 has continued to blossom, with Songs of Berlin offering regular tours themed around certain moments in the history of Berlin. Regardless of genre, these songs are used to demonstrate and bring a fresh view to well trodden tour paths in the middle of the city. Currently on offer is a tour looping you from Potsdamer Platz to Tiergarten, Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag, Checkpoint Charlie and back to your starting point, examining the music of the Cold War. Expect The Beatles, Pink Floyd and the aforementioned David Bowie, as you take in Berlin not just through your eyes, but your ears.
