Another pick from Berlin’s annual list, the IFA Consumer Electronics Trade show kinda does what it says in the title. And yet there is something more to the six-day takeover of the ICC Messe in Berlin. The space fills up with exhibitors from some 57 countries, showing their wares to the 240,000 that meander around in the hope of uncovering something new, innovative – and perhaps even useful.
There’s a lot of things on offer at the IFA, with sections covering everything from components, to home media and audio, home appliances great and small, personal and public media and communication. These sections act as a testing ground for debuting products, and help to divide up the colossal space of the ICC for the sake of everyone’s sanity. There’s also special areas for Mac and other related iTech products, an elibrary and usability park. A series of events and keynotes, plus concerts in the IFA Sommergarten also offer up distractions a plenty – making the IFA a consumers candy shop, particularly if you are electronically inclined.
