Berlin celebrates its own Carnival (Karneval Der Kulturen) which year after year brings together a large crowd of people of different cultures and nationalities, adding almost one and a half million people to the city. This celebration takes place in the neighbourhood of Kreuzberg, known for having the highest immigration rates of Berlin. This carnival, held since 1996, aims to pay homage to the multiculturalism of the German capital.
Karneval Der Kulturen is an outdoor event that lasts four days, this year from Friday 18th to Monday 21st, where you can enjoy concerts and parties while you can taste several culinary specialties, along with an exotic caipirinha or mojito. The highlight of the carnival is Sunday, because it is the day of the parade and where about 4,500 people of different nationalities participate, all dressed in typical costumes from each country and dancing to the music of the different world music: from Brazilian samba to South African music ... The tour starts in Hermannplatz and ends in Yorckstraße.
During these four days there are numerous concerts, divided into different stages (Latin Quarter, Eurasia and Oriental Bazaar, among others), a market with handicrafts from different parts of the world, and of course, several food and drink stands. All this in the surroundings of the Blücherplatz, near the Hallesches Tor or Südstern metro stop, easily accessible with the U1, U6 or U7 lines.
