Moored along the Landwehrkanal towards the leafier parts of Kreuzberg, the van Loon Restaurant boat is easy enough to find – just look for the boat by Baerwaldbrücke.
On board, there is the option to eat on or below deck – an option usually dictated by the weather. If it’s warm and dry, head out on top for a leisurely brunch (in typical Berlin style) or a more romantic dinner for the balmier nights. Colder days mean you’ll probably retreat indoors – but either way, you’ll be treated to a suitably marine flavoured menu, which is always a novelty worth savouring in these landlocked parts. Smoked fish, herring and salmon are on offer alongside an array of fish and chip suppers; there’s a great range of vegan and vegetarian options and meat for those that prefer turf to surf. Van Loon also have two further boats for rental – either for private functions or for tours of the canal, which can be booked via their website.
