Right around the corner from Miniloft lays the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus – a building that is now used as a conference centre, but boasts a fascinating history as a site of Berlin. Earmarked for construction in 1910 and completed in 1915, it now belongs to the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus GbR, consisting of the German Surgical Association(Deutsche Gesellschaft für Chirurgie) and the the Berlin Medical Association (BMG-Berliner Medizinische Gesellschaft).
In its current guise, the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus plays host to a whole range of medical and scientific meetups and conferences, as well as housing numerous medical associations within the centre. But look a little further back and you’ll find a whole back-story of previous occupants. From the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus GbR through to the Soviet military authority, by way of the GDR government itself and a 10 year legal battle to return an often commandeered site back to the original owners, the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus may not necessarily reside top of your sightseeing list – but it is a funny what you find just a couple of streets away.
