Urban Spree
Thursday, February 27, 2014
To say that Berlin’s much lauded art scene is multifaceted is a slight understatement – in this city, your options for art range from the traditional national galleries to the current crop of artists in Auguststraße through to something a little more grassroots. Underpinning Urban Spree, on Revaler Straße in Friedrichshain, is that idea of community – of seeing Berlin as more than a showroom and finding the muse in the city.

New Years always bring new changes, and for Miniloft, the first big change of 2014 hasn’t been the greatest one we’ve heard. Towards the end of last year on the 14th December 2013, the Berlin Senate proposed and voted in a “City Tax” for overnight stays in Berlin. The tax came into effect as of 1st January 2014, and is applicable to private stays only.

Thursday, February 20, 2014
Berlin has been the locale for several classic films – Wim Wenders Wings of Desire, Fritz Lang’s Metropolis – but one that recently comes to our mind is Tom Twyker’s Lola Rennt – aka Run Lola Run. The film sees the titular character in a mad rush across the city to save her boyfriends life. If you’ve never seen it, do – it’s an incredible look at post-war Berlin and one heck of a race against time.

A tour company fixated on the hidden delights of Berlin, Berliner Unterwelten is all about subterranean exploration, peeking in at the fascinating glimpses of Berlin’s past that have been hidden underground.
Sauvage

Of late, Paleolithic cuisine has been dividing opinions in many a NY, LA and London headline. The idea of unrefined food is nothing new – which is actually the main point of Paleolithic cuisine, a sort of “modern take” on a diet that stretches back 15,000 years. Based around the idea we really haven’t changed that much since then, Paleo cuisine avoids processed and refined-carbohydrate led foods, switching to simple, unrefined food that pass the hunter-gatherer test. It’s not eating like a caveman, but rooted in the principles of the diet at the time.
St. Agnes Church
Friday, January 10, 2014
Berlin is not a city to just hand it’s numerous spaces over to history. In the past few years, the growth of the capital can be found in the bounty of new cultural hotspots, filling gaps left from former times. The St. Agnes Church is the latest in a long line of cultural redevelopment, this time taking a former church and turning it into a multipurpose destination for art, design, writing, performance and more.
Labyrinth Kindermuseum

Berlin does have its fair share of heavy hitting museums that are also suitable to take younger visitors around. From the stones-throw-from-Miniloft located Naturkundenmuseum to the Deutsches TechnikMuseum, most tastes are catered for. But the beauty of the Labyrinth Children’s Museum, up in Wedding, is in its simple interactivity, that allows younger, inquiring minds the chance to get hands on during their stay.
Saunas in Berlin
Monday, December 16, 2013
When winter comes, it can be a challenge to imagine venturing out into the Berlin chill – but there’s a middle ground when it comes to exploring the city’s abundance of saunas. Totally compatible with the typically German idea of wellness, the health benefits of saunas are numerous. But at this time of year, the sauna is also a sensible choice on a practical level, functioning as a place to both relax and warm yourself a little before heading back out into the refreshing cold air.
