The area north of Miniloft is changing fast, and now there's a great club just a hop, skip and a jump away. We're so happy that one of the last dilapidated, unrenovated buildings on Chauseestraße has been bought by some art-and-party oriented folks, instead of unscrupulous investors looking to make shoddy apartments and lots of cash. The building has an excellent view of the gigantic new German secret service building under construction. Spying on the spies?
A couple of Berlin club-scene heavyweights opened KTV Berlin in the basement last summer (golden walls, wild parties, good cocktails, karaoke), and that was just the beginning. The building is slowly being covered with great street art - a giant portait by Portuguese artist Vhils, depicting the intrepid founder of the 'Bearpit' karoake in Mauerpark, is appropriate decoration for a club celebrating karaoke (albeit an ad for Levi's). The first floor will be occupied by an art society, with events and dinners, while the second floor will be a gallery.
Be sure to check out the colorful segments of the Berlin Wall in the courtyard, which serve as a reminder that this busy street was once no-man's land at the border between West and East Berlin. (Fun fact: a little further up the street stand some more sections of the Wall - but not in their original line along the border! They were set up for the filming of 'Russendisko' last summer, and are still hanging out. Where did they come from?)
