Spring is in the air, and there's no better way to celebrate Easter in Berlin than a visit to the new animal babies at our two zoos.
The Zoologische Garten, right in downtown West Berlin and home of celebrity polar bear Knut, is the oldest zoo in Germany. Although the most species-rich in the world, it's compact enough that visitors can see most animals in one visit, yet spacious enough so the animals have a good amount of space. The adjoining aquarium is good for rainy days.
Tierpark was East Berlin's zoo and makes for a relaxing day trip. On the grounds of a former palace, its lovely, shaded grounds are less crowded and populated by wandering pink pelicans and peacocks - the perfect spot for a ramble and picnic.
