Looking after a baby doesn’t have to scupper your travel plans – especially in Berlin. This is a city with a district secretly dedicated to the Kindercafe (step forward, Prenzlauer Berg), where the transport is integrated enough to keep you moving in the right direction and where you’re highly unlikely to encounter a sour-faced look for changing your baby when needs must. Our top tips for young families to Berlin include:
Best for long buggy walks: Tiergarten:
The ultimate walk around the park, the sprawling lanes of Tiergarten provide a double-whammy of allowing you to stroll past some of Berlin’s biggest sites – the Victory Tower, the Brandenberg Gate and the Reichstag – all the while providing your baby with plenty of winding lanes to snooze along to.
Best for storytime: Mundo Azul
Up in the baby-epicentre of Berlin, Mundo Azul offers plenty of fodder for many storytimes to come, with the multilingual bookshop stocking beautiful children’s books for all ages – and in plenty of different languages.
Best for a rainy day: Loxx Model Railway
When the weather is bad and you’re looking for a warmish place to take in Berlin’s sites without getting you or your little one soaked, we’d definitely recommend the Loxx Model Railway. Located above the Alexa mall at Alexanderplatz, it’s an imagined Berlin in miniature, which still has plenty of sites and sounds to fascinate the most-curious minded younger visitor.
