The opening of the huge new Based in Berlin exhibition last night was a celebration of the city's young, international art scene. The exhibition features 80 up and coming artists who live in Berlin. Spanning the best galleries all over the city, the exhibition is a great chance to see what's happening in the not-so-established art scene.

The sprawling Berlin Gallery Weekend is upon us again - the ante has been upped to 44 galleries, 44 openings, and of course parties all over the city. It's an easy stroll from the Miniloft apartments to the host of galleries on Linenstraße and Auguststraße and Brunnenstraße, or head south to Galerie Crone, Carlier | Gebauer and others east of Friedrichstraße.

Dare I say I'm looking forward to February? Berlin does its best to cheer everybody up in that short dark month, perhaps as a reward for getting through January. Not only do we have the public-friendly Berlinale, an international film festival where normal people can actually get tickets - there's also Transmediale and Club Transmediale to further brighten our days and nights.
