Friedrichstrasse sometimes gets a bad rep for being all big shops and tourist spaces, with little room for anything else. People who say that, haven’t managed to take a trip to Hackendahl. Down the road from us, Hackendahl is a cozy pub and bar that manages to bring back a sense of Berlin from yesteryear – and is perfect for a spot of late winter restitution, when the sun hasn’t fully come out to play.
Boasting candlelight and fireplace, you can stay at street level and watch the people go by – or you can go below ground to Hackendahl’s vaulted cellars. The drinks on offer are similarly traditional, but well done, with a great selection of rare whiskeys and gin to whet your whistle. Hackendahl is also the new home of the offshoot of Bohème Sauvage – the Bohème Sauvage Soirée. Happening on selected nights almost every month, it’s a 20’s themed party that is a perfect fit for Hackendahl’s soulful charms.
