The early months of the New Year may seem like prime time for Berlin hibernation, but it’s just the season for us at Miniloft to make the most of the city’s cultural highlights. Straddling January and February, and connecting the many dots between art, culture and technology the transmediale 2013 festival always promises a special few days for the 20,000 strong media art professionals, artists and activists who make their annual pilgrimage to the Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
This year sees a new concept - BWPWAP (aka Back When Pluto Was a Planet) alongside a new programme framework for the festival, as transmediale 2013 premieres their Imaginary Museum. Focus this year is on the idea of networks and categorisation, as a varied group of practitioners are brought together to interrogate how emerging technologies decontextualize our established order of living.
Highlights include Alejandro Jodorowsky, Elizabeth Price, Ian Hacking and A Guy Called Gerald, and there is the usual cooperation with the concurrently running CTM Festival 2013, dedicated to electronic and experimental music. Those with adventurous and enquiring minds are sure to find plenty of ways to get their digital kicks.
