We’re delighted to announce that Miniloft Berlin is the recipient of the grüne Zukunft (Green Future) award from at this years SO! APART awards. The Barn & The Barn Roastery
Friday, November 29, 2013
Sometimes a coffee is there to serve a purpose and offer you a little caffeinated pick-me-up. And then there are the times where you choose pleasure over purpose. It is then that you head to The Barn. With two locations in Berlin – one in Prenzlauerberg (The Barn Roastery) and one in Miniloft’s district of Mitte – The Barn is a strong contender for Berlin’s best cup of coffee.
Soviet Memorial in Treptower Park
Wednesday, November 20, 2013
Berlin is currently preparing itself for winter, which means long meandering walks are not always top of the list. However, we at Miniloft think you should make an exception for the Soviet Memorial – a site that in our opinion, actually resonantes in a setting when the days turn shorter, and bleaker.
Bergmannkiez
Thursday, November 14, 2013
Granted, Berlin may well be the capital of the country, but to say the city is centralised in design is way off the mark. One of the best parts of living – and staying – in the city is that there will always be something new to discover, and the sense of real geographical distinction as you move from place to place. The idea of the kiez is key to this. Kiez are like little areas, often consisting of around three or four streets that almost function like a tiny village, each with it’s own unique feel and character.
Sonntagskonzerte at Clärchens Ballhaus
Thursday, November 14, 2013
Berlin is often painted as a city that refuses to go to sleep – particularly for those with a taste for techno. But electronic beats are not the only music on offer, and for anyone looking for a more civilised Sunday evening, the Sonntagskonzerte at Clärchens Ballhaus offers a real Berlin treat.
Jüdische Mädchenschule
Sunday, October 20, 2013
Auguststrasse, just a blocks away from Miniloft, has crafted a rather salubrious reputation amongst other Berlin streets. With galleries, countless cafés and restaurants, it’s another typically Mitte street filled with things to do. And taking a trip round the renovated Jüdische Mädchenschule allows for a microcosm of Mitte, under one roof.
Cocolo Ramenbar
Monday, September 30, 2013
Comfort food comes in many forms – but the overarching criteria could be surmised as food that warms your soul as much as it sates any physical hunger. For those moments where such sustenance is the order of the day, head to Cocolo on Gipstraße in Mitte. There, in a relatively small and permanently bustling restaurant, you’ll find your fix.
Tegeler See and Dicke Marie
Tuesday, September 24, 2013
Berlin may well be a landlocked state, but that is not to say we’re running low on water around these parts. Whether it’s the Spree or the numerous canals or the many periphery lakes, you’ll still find plenty of the stuff in the city. But our advice is to head up north from Miniloft, where you’ll find one of our favourite all-year-round lakes, Tegeler See.
Spaceships are cool
Monday, September 9, 2013
Distinguished guests of Miniloft Berlin are in plentiful supply, not that we would generally kiss and tell. But we had to share the news that we’ve got a great band called Spaceships are cool soon to be staying with us.
Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus
Monday, August 26, 2013
Right around the corner from Miniloft lays the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus – a building that is now used as a conference centre, but boasts a fascinating history as a site of Berlin. Earmarked for construction in 1910 and completed in 1915, it now belongs to the Langenbeck-Virchow-Haus GbR, consisting of the German Surgical Association(Deutsche Gesellschaft für Chirurgie) and the the Berlin Medical Association (BMG-Berliner Medizinische Gesellschaft).
