Tiergarten, Berlin’s most lovely (and gigantic) park, is just a stone’s throw along off-street paths from the Minilofts. Britta and Matthew go jogging (Britta) and rollerskiing (Matthew) there almost every morning, Designed as a hunting ground in the 1830s and deforested as a source of firewood after WWII, today the park is back to its original beauty. After sightseeing at Potsdamer Platz or the Reichstag, climb up the Siegessaüle in the center of the park for a fabulous panorama view of the city, then enjoy a picnic under the trees. Take a long walk along the River Spree, sip a tall Pils in the idyllic beer garden Cafe am Neuen See (followed by a leisurely spin in a row boat), or stop for a cake and coffee break at the River Cafe in the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, an arts and culture center on the river, with a fabulous view the government buildings at the north side of the park. For a delicious light meal and tasty fresh salads, head straight to Cafe Schleusenkrug.
