Over the years, Berlin has implemented many community-facing initiatives to ensure the city as a whole can interact and benefit from shared experience. From the excellent bulletin board of Give Something Back to Berlin through to the regular meet up of the Homeless Veggie Dinner,it’s always cheering to see events that warm your heart as the weather turns cold.
The aforementioned Homeless Veggie Dinner is in its 51st edition – a regular sit down dinner with a difference. Alongside the three courses and free (non-alcoholic) drink, a hefty portion of goodwill is on the menu, with those that can afford it invited to donate to pay for their meals and cover the costs for guests who cannot. There’s no minimum donation, with the Homeless Veggie Dinner organisers adopting a “pay what you can” approach.
The dinner is also a place where anyone can come, meet people from other walks of life and share their stories. That social aspect is equally emphasised, making the Homeless Veggie Dinner a truly communal experience.
