Underrated compared to the other museums in the city, the Museum of Technology (Deutsches Technikmuseum) is perfect for any kid that dreams in Meccano. With special exhibitions running alongside a permanent collection that includes whole plans, your tech-inclined kids will thank you for making a trip.

Zoologischer Garten and Aquarium
The Zoologischer Garten is home to the Berlin Zoo and Aquarium, which happens to be the oldest in Germany. Whether your outside looking at the animals or inside exploring the underwater world, it’s a classic spot for young ones to get in touch with the wonders of the animal kingdom.

Another rainy day staple, the Loxx Model Railway presents Berlin in miniature – although with a 3,000m² showroom, it’s not quite as tiny as you think. A 1:87 replica of the city offers you a birds eye view of the main sites and is must for any train obsessed members of the family

Relive your youth and show the young’uns how it was done at the Computer Game Museum, which is a fascinating, interactive testament to the power of gaming throughout the years. From the first computer game of 1951 to the more recent relics of the Gameboy and beyond to the present day, it’s hard not to feel nostalgia wandering around.

A trip to the Greenwich Promenade at Tegeler See is perfect in the summer, with the chance to wander around part of this enormous lake, take a boat ride or site by the side with an ice cream or two. But be sure to venture along the northern side to say hello to Dicke Marie – Berlin’s oldest tree, who has seen no less than 900 years in the same spot.
