Where once there was only Popkomm, now there is Berlin Music Week, as the music industry consolidates to create a vast 7-day program for music lovers and industry folks.
The Berlin Festival (Sep 10-11) has grown in prestige and awesomeness in the past few years, and now can boast a stellar lineup on the tarmac at Tempelhof airport (easily accessible by public transport from the Miniloft apartments). Sample acts include Editors, Fatboy Slim, LCD Soundsystem, Fever Ray, Atari Teenage Riot, Robyn, Adam Green, 2manydjs (live), Hot Chip, Soulwax, Gang Of Four, Tricky, Edwyn Collins, Boys Noize, Peaches ... and that's just a few.
This year ClubSpreeBerlin (Sep 6-12) turns the banks of the Spree River between the Jannowitz and Elsen bridges into a long club mile, with tons of parties and concerts of all genres. A free solar shuttle boat can ferry you from Maria am Ostbahnhof to Tresor, from Kiki Blofeld to Bar 25 to Berghain.
Then of course there's the Berlin Club Night (Berlin Clubnacht) on September 11, where one ticket gets you into over 35 clubs (if you can make it).
For those with classical leanings, musikfest berlin, Berlin’s impressive festival of orchestral music, presents 37 world-class soloists, 27 choirs, ensembles and orchestras drawn from the cream of the international musical crop, at prime venues such as the Philharmonie and the Konzerthaus at Gendarmenmarkt.
There's much more. These are just the big ones. Check out the Berlin Music Week website for the full program.
